A Policy of Caring is an official non-profit organization that aims to bring harmony in people utilizing the healing and transformative energy of Yoga, Exercise, Meditation, Nutrition, Reiki, and discovering creative outlets such as writing and art. True Freedom Recovery Yoga is the yoga arm of A Policy of Caring, Inc. We facilitate healing and train groups and individuals on the art of being alive in this busy and changing world.

Jeff Emerson - Executive Director - Teacher shares:

True Freedom Recovery yoga is a unique place where people in recovery meet to work on their recovery by working their body, mind, and spirit. We first work the body with breathing exercises and/or asana practice, then we gather afterward for a recovery meeting. We take the competition out of what form of recovery you are in and just come together as a group who are trying to grow spiritualty in a different way than the meetings and sponsorship allow. Anyone is welcome to True Freedom, you may meet someone in AA or NA, Al-Anon, OA, MA, or not in 12step recovery at all. However, every class ends with a meeting if you care to join, and we just say our name and that we are in recovery. We are not interested in what fellowship you attend or in what or how much you used, or if you have abused substances at all, only in how we can grow together in body, mind, and spirit using yoga as a way of getting in touch with our true selves. This keeps a sense of unity in the meeting and yoga space. We have workshops and special classes where we can explore different topics that may help in our recovery, also we have a 200- and 300-hour training which is one of the first in the world to allow people to become recovery yoga teachers. These programs are good for those who want to deepen even more in yoga philosophy and how it pertains to the recovery process. Both trainings take about a year, so those newer in recovery, it gives them a purpose and community that helps bring a solid foundation for their recovery. We meet every week night and week day for regular classes and a couple classes/meetings on the weekend.
