Xylazine (or tranq) is quickly spreading through the drug supply and has been linked to an increasing number of overdose deaths nationwide in the evolving overdose crisis. This non-opioid veterinary tranquilizer is not approved for human use; however, it is often used knowingly or unknowingly in combination with other drugs, particularly fentanyl. Repeated xylazine use is also associated with skin ulcers, abscesses and related complications, including necrosis – the rotting of human tissue that may lead to preventable amputations, particularly without proper wound care.

This webinar provides an overview of the emergence of xylazine in the U.S. drug supply, support resources for working with people impacted by xylazine and practical care guidelines for managing xylazine-based wounds to prevent amputation.
